About Dr. Smith

Since completing my MA in English at the University of Georgia in 2016, I have been serving as the instructor of record for courses at Georgia Highlands College, the University of South Carolina (where I also earned my PhD – go Gamecocks!), Georgia Tech, and Kennesaw State University. All of my teaching practices can be explained by one keyword: access. I teach to make the intellectual and philosophical benefits of literature available to students from all backgrounds, whether they consider themselves “humanities types” or not! I also believe that communication skills will open doors to educational and professional opportunities in all fields – my students do not leave my classroom without transferable skills that serve their own future goals!

Some courses I have taught include:

  • Social Advocacy and Ethical Life
  • Southern Studies 101: The Literary South
  • English 1101: Fight, Flight, or Write!
  • English 0999: Support for English 1101
  • English 0989: Foundations for English Composition
  • English 1102: Rhetoric and the Social Impacts of Technology
